EVENTS
April 26 is the day of mourning for the victims of Chernobyl nuclear accident
May 9 is the Victory Day, celebrating the victory of the USSR over Nazi Germany
July 3 is the day of liberation of Belarus from occupation by Nazi Germany
Comment: this day is celebrated in Belarus as the Independence Day. However, since the political independence of the country did not change on that day, the administration of this site does not consider this day to qualify for the title. To be fair, the country was, in fact, liberated from the Nazis on or about July 3, 1944, and we celebrate this day as such.
September 19 arguably, the true Independence Day for Belarus.
Comment: on September 19, 1991, Belarussian Soviet Socialist Republic was renamed Republic of Belarus and became a de-facto separate country.
